1984 by George Orwell

Only surrender, and everything else followed. It was like swimming against a current that swept you backwards however hard you struggled, and then suddenly deciding to turn around and go with the current instead of opposing it. Nothing had changed except your own attitude: the predestined thing happened in any case.

One of those books that must have been revolutionary in its time. A miserable dystopian world where freedom is slavery and war is peace... This is a challenging read, simply because you know that such oppression actually happens in the world today.

And so it is in this same frame of mind that I start reading those heavyweight political stuff about bygone Singapore. Maybe I shall return convicted, converted, corrected or crucified.
Veritas vincit.
